Being drawn to pattern and geometric design, I create functional work that conveys my penchant for precision and detail. I aim to produce work that can be used in every day life, as well as appreciated for more than just its functionality.
In my most recent work, I have allowed the simplicity of the form and the starkness of the white clay body to act as a canvas for the meticulous imagery. I draw inspiration from many of the murals around St. Petersburg, as well as traditional Native American and Japanese ceramics. With uniqueness in mind, each of my pieces are thrown and hand-painted with the shape and decoration I am inspired by in that moment. I limit myself in certain specifications to maintain cohesiveness between the works. Each design is implemented using a template I created to ensure the pattern will perfectly fit the piece. Colors and shades play a crucial role as they accentuate the dimensionality of the image. The end result is a harmonizing dichotomy of simplistic form and intricate surface.
